Research Note: Original Seth Thomas serial lists designate 35001-36200 as "Model 4." However, #36089 and #36099 have been verified as more consistent with Model 2 movements (profile plates, patent date marked on pillar plate), with the exception that they are Keywind/Keyset like the standard Model 4. These movements require a special classification since the Model 2 movements are lever-set in standard production. It is unclear whether the Seth Thomas factory recognized these as Model 2 because of the consistency with other Model 2 movements or Model 4 because the core movement is keywind/keyset. Either way, this variation was only produced in a very short run of movements, perhaps fewer than 100. The current run has been segemented from this uncommon variant and is consistent with the proper Grade 11 Model 4 classification.
